Western countries’ sanctions against Russia as a result of its attacks on Ukraine have caused widespread panic in the country. Due to the prohibition on the import and export of food products, as well as issues with the shipment of some products, decreased sugar stocks were reflected in prices. Sugar prices rose to 350 rubles per kilogram, up from 70-100 rubles previously. Russians flocked to markets across the country following the sugar crisis.
