5 new eruptions occur at Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico

According to the daily report of Mexico’s National Center for Prevention of Disasters (CENAPRED), the Popocatepetl Volcano erupted 5 times in the last 24 hours.

In the published report, it was warned that citizens living in the vicinity take precautions against ashfall and mudflows that may occur in case of rain. Also, authorities warned citizens to stay away from the region due to stones and pebbles that dispersed around from the volcano, which is likely to explode at any moment, may hit the environment.

Popocatepetl, meaning “the Smoking Mountain” in Aztec, is the second biggest volcano in North America thanks to its 5,452 meters length, 900 meters wide crater width and 150 meters long depth. Its twin volcano, Iztaccihuatl, is located 16 kilometers above Popocatepetl.
