Crazy swimming festival of Prague amidst winter

Within the scope of Prague’s Christmas swimming competition, about 350 brave swimmers jumped into the Vltava River of Czech and raced against powerful current while temperatures showed 4.9 degree Celsius. Participants from every age and various countries such as Belgium, Austria and Slovakia completed the race by swimming 1150 meters in three courses in accompany with crowd’s applauds.

“I am organizing this event for the 20th time. Before COVID, the numbers were increasing every year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we managed to keep the tradition, so we organized it for 2 years and the numbers decreased logically. After the pandemic, the number of participants went up again. But I don’t think the number of participants today will be surpassed as the number of registrants is 420 compared to 431 before the COVID,” says Tomas Prokop.

US Flag Raised Again at Embassy in Damascus After 12 Year

0

The US flag has been hoisted once more at the US Embassy in Damascus, Syria, for the first time since its closure in 2012.

US Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barrack made his first official visit to Damascus and personally raised the flag during a ceremony attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaybani. The embassy had suspended operations amid the outbreak of civil conflict following anti-government protests.

No official statement has been issued regarding the resumption of embassy operations.

The move follows a surprise meeting earlier this month between US President Donald Trump and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara in Riyadh, where a decision was made to lift sanctions imposed during the Assad era, signaling a potential shift in Washington-Damascus relations.
