A project is carried out to read the Hittite cuneiform tablets in the inventory of Turkey’s Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Istanbul Archeology Museums and Çorum Museum by artificial intelligence. The first phase of the project, which was initiated to read, scan and digitize Hittite cuneiform tablets using artificial intelligence, has been completed. In the study carried out with a 1954 Hittite cuneiform tablet, 500 of them were learned by artificial intelligence with a success rate of 76 percent.
Project Coordinator and Ankara University Faculty Member Assoc. Özlem Sir Gavaz said, “We started a project to make Hittite tablets read with artificial intelligence for the first time in the world. Were there any examples? There were examples of this at Chicago, Toronto and Tel Aviv University. However, these studies were on the Babylonian and Akkadian tablets.”
Furthermore, when the artificial intelligence studies are completed, the information obtained from the tablets will be created, and a digital library will be made available to Hititologists and history buffs.
