Airport workers go on strike in Berlin, numerous flights get canceled

After the German trade union Ver.di’s call, the security and passenger and luggage control departments at Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) Airport staged a 24-hour strike yesterday. Due to the strike, approximately 220 aircraft could not take off and 72 out of 240 aircraft could not land.

The Ver.di Syndicate has long been negotiating with the Federal Association of Aviation Safety Companies (BDLS) on increasing employee surcharges for nights, weekends and holidays. The union aims to increase the pressure on the employers during further negotiations, planned to be held on April 27 and 28.
