Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe portrait sells for record $195 Million

“Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” an American painter Andy Warhol’s 1964 portrait of Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe, was auctioned off at Christie’s auction house in New York, USA. The work sold for $195 million including taxes, making it “the most expensive piece of art of the 20th century”. Shot Sage Blue Marilyn is also the second most expensive piece of art of all time. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Children’s Charity Foundation.

The most expensive piece of art in the world was Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi”, which sold for $450 million in 2017.
