Anti-government protest in Kenya: 24 detained

In Kenya, which has been experiencing a record drought for the past few months, people gathered around the government buildings in the capital city of Nairobi to protest against the government’s policies. They were demanding that the government address the issue of price increases in essential goods such as food, water, and medicine, and also to take action to stabilize the local currency, which has been rapidly depreciating against the US dollar.

According to reports, a person was allegedly shot and hospitalized during the turmoil between the police and the demonstrators in the Kibera region.  Twenty-four people have been detained so far.

Prior to the protests, many businesses in the city had closed down, while others had instructed their staff to work from home.
