Anti-UN protests spread in DR Congo, killing at least 15

Violent anti-United Nations protests broke out in Democratic Republic of the Congo’s eastern cities of Goma and Butembo on Tuesday, leaving at least 15 people dead and about 50 injured, according to authorities. The UN’s peacekeepers in the region should be withdrawn, protesters demanded on the second day of the demonstrations. The government’s youth wing organized the protests, which turned violent on Monday when demonstrators broke into and looted the local UN mission headquarters and a logistical base in the city of Goma.

Locals accuse the UN of being ineffective, which has led to an increase in violence recently.
