archaeologists find 17th-century Swedish warship

According to the Swedish Wreck Museum, naval archaeologists have discovered the centuries-old sister ship Applet, which sank on its maiden voyage, the 17th-century warship Vasa. The examinations conducted on a sunken ship off Vaxholm Island in December 2021 revealed that the ship was an Applet, one of the Swedish Navy’s warships.

The 69-metre-long Vasa, named after a Swedish king, sank off the island of Vaxholm on its maiden voyage in 1629. The ship, which was lifted from the water in 1961, is now on display at Stockholm’s Vasa Museum, one of Sweden’s popular tourist destinations.
