The Okçuçay River, located in Zangilan province in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, is polluted by waste thrown by Armenian businesses. Water and sediment samples are collected on a regular basis for analysis in order to determine the quality of water in Liberated Zone water bodies. As a result of the samples collected, it was determined that the Okçuçay River in Zangilan province was contaminated by wastewater from the Gafan and Gacaran copper-molybdenum plants, both of which are located on Armenian territory. The facilities in Armenia discharge their wastewater into the river without treatment, polluting the river with heavy metals.
