At least 127 people, mostly civilians, were killed in escalating clashes between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday and Tuesday. The conflict, now in its 20th month, has intensified with airstrikes and artillery fire.

In North Darfur’s Kabkabiya, barrel bombs struck a market on Monday, killing over 100 people, according to the Al-Fashir Resistance Committee and human rights group Emergency Lawyers. Many victims were civilians, with bodies burned or mutilated beyond recognition.

On Tuesday, RSF artillery fire targeted army-held areas in Omdurman, Khartoum, killing 20 people, including 14 bus passengers. Seven more died in an attack in North Darfur, where famine has been declared at Zamzam camp.

The army, fighting for control of North Darfur’s capital, denied targeting civilians in Kabkabiya, while the RSF has not commented. Violence continues to devastate the region.

EU Nears 18th Sanctions Package Against Russia

0

EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said a political agreement on the 18th sanctions package against Russia is imminent, expressing hope it would be reached today. Speaking ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Kallas emphasized continued support for Ukraine and welcomed the US decision to send advanced weapons systems.

Addressing other global issues, Kallas noted some improvements in Gaza but warned that the humanitarian situation remains dire. She stressed the need for practical implementation of aid agreements with Israel.

Kallas also raised concerns about Iran and Georgia. She said sanctions under the Iran nuclear deal may automatically resume, and visa liberalization for Georgia could be suspended due to political deterioration.

Commenting on Russia, Kallas stated, “The US has also realized that Russia doesn’t actually want peace,” and called for more international pressure to end the war in Ukraine.
