Bolsonaro supporters set parked cars on fire in Brazil

In Brazil, supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro took to the streets after Supreme Court (STF) President Alexandre de Moraes issued a provisional arrest warrant for indigenous leader Jose Acacio Serere Xavante for allegedly participating in anti-democratic actions. The protesters, set fire to parked vehicles in the capital Brasilia and attempted entering the Federal Police building. The police intervened the protesters with sound bombs and rubber bullets.

Security measures have also been increased around the hotel where former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who won the presidential election in the country on October 30, stayed.

Lula won the election with 50.9 percent of the vote, while Bolsonaro received 49.1 percent of the vote. The defeated supporters of Bolsonaro who refuse the election results have been gathering in front of barracks across the country for weeks, demanding the armed forces to intervene.

Bolsonaro’s term in office expires on January 1.
