Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched an airstrike on Sanaa International Airport, under Houthi control in Yemen’s capital. Katz stated the attack destroyed the last plane operated by the Houthis and warned of repeated strikes on the airport and other strategic infrastructure.
The IDF claimed the airport was being used to transport armed Houthi members, similar to the ports of Hodeidah and Salif previously targeted by Israel.
According to Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV, four Israeli airstrikes hit the runway and a Yemenia Airlines aircraft—the airline’s final operational civilian plane. The runway, reportedly used by UN aircraft, was also heavily damaged.
Yemeni officials confirmed that the airport’s terminal and runway were rendered unusable after the May 6 attack, though operations resumed 11 days later. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “We will use stronger force to harm someone who harms us.”
