Chad to Elect New President After Being Governed by Junta for 3 Years

The presidential election has begun in Chad, which has been ruled by the junta since April 2021, when Idriss Deby, who ruled the country for 30 years, was killed in a conflict. A total of 8.5 million registered voters were called to the voting station between 07.00 and 17.00 local time.

Interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby, who promised to improve security, increase electricity production, and ensure the rule of law, is among the prominent candidates. His strongest rival is Interim Prime Minister Basari Masra.
