Clashes between the M23 rebel group and government forces in Goma, the capital of North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have resulted in 25 deaths and 375 injuries, according to civil society groups. Hospitals in Goma are overwhelmed, and bodies reportedly remain on the streets.

The M23 group, backed by Rwanda and established in 2012, claims to protect the Tutsi population, citing historical persecution. The situation has drawn attention from the United Nations and humanitarian organizations.
