Thousands of vehicles seized by the Assad regime in Syria were dismantled and abandoned in a military-controlled garage.
After the 2011 civil war, regime forces confiscated civilian vehicles, stripped them for parts, and left the remains to decay. The garage, once holding 7,000 vehicles, is now under new control, with efforts underway to return 3,400 remaining cars to their owners.
Hatim Ahmed El-Gorani, the garage’s original owner, said he was imprisoned without trial for over 13 years. “They took people’s vehicles and sold their parts. Seeing my children again is a dream come true,” he said.
