Croatians Head to Polls for 2nd Round of Presidential Election

Croatians began voting in the second round of the presidential election this morning at 07:00 local time. Voters will choose between incumbent President Zoran Milanovic and Dragan Primorac, who is supported by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

The Croatian State Election Commission (DIP) is expected to start sharing the first results of the election half an hour after the ballot boxes close, and by 21:00, approximately 90 percent of the votes will have been counted.

In the first round of the election, where a 50 percent vote rate was required for the presidency, President Milanovic, who is supported by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), narrowly missed winning the election with 49.11 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, his strongest rival, Dragan Primorac, came in second with approximately 19.36 percent of the vote.
