Croatians Refuse to Shop to Boycott Increasing Prices

Citizens in Croatia, the country with the highest inflation in the euro zone, boycotted stores, market chains and gas stations by not shopping all day yesterday due to extreme price increases.

The boycott, which was initiated on social media under the leadership of a civil society organization, was also supported by consumer protection associations and political parties.

“No EU country has faced such a price increase, especially in food prices, in the last two years. Moreover, the increases do not stop and new increases are announced. These price increases have become unbearable for tens of thousands of our citizens,” said the administrators of the Facebook group “Halo, Inspektore” where the boycott was organized.

Unions and associations in Croatia demand concrete measures such as reducing VAT and providing incentives for local producers to protect consumers.
