Croatia’s HDZ Loses Power Despite Winning Elections

In Croatia’s parliamentary elections, the ruling party HDZ led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic secured approximately 35% of the vote, based on 95% of the votes counted. However, this did not translate into retaining power, as they are projected to gain 60 seats in parliament. The opposition Justice River Coalition, led by SDP and backed by President Zoran Milanovic, garnered about 26% of the vote, earning them 42 seats in parliament. These unofficial results signify a shift in political dynamics despite HDZ’s electoral success.
