Deadly Floods Strike Indonesia

Heavy rains and severe flooding in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province have left one person dead and four others injured. The disaster has paralyzed local transportation, with Police Chief Djati Wiyoto Abadhy noting that “sand, rocks, and mud carried by the floods blocked the main road connecting Padang and Solok.” Authorities report that the rushing waters also damaged 11 public buildings and swept away nearly 30 vehicles. In response, roughly 300 additional police officers have joined military and disaster management teams to assist with ongoing search, rescue, and cleanup operations.
