Death Toll Rises as Forest Fires Continue in South Korea

According to the South Korean Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the number of people who lost their lives has risen to 26 and the number of people injured has risen to 30 in the fires that have reduced 36,009 hectares to ashes in the last 7 days in South Gyeongsang and North Gyeongsang provinces.

As of today, the fires in Andong city have been extinguished by 52 percent, the fires in Uiseong region by 54 percent, and the fires in Sancheong Hadong and Cheongsong regions by 77 percent, said the officials.

It was also reported that 20,485 people out of 37,185 who evacuated returned to their homes after the danger passed.
