Dengue Cases Surge in Bangladesh, Hospitals Overwhelmed

Bangladesh is witnessing a rapid increase in dengue fever cases, sparking concerns among health officials. Within the past 24 hours, 211 new cases have been reported, pushing the total to 3,601 for the year. One person has died from the disease in the same period, bringing the total number of deaths to 27. The escalating outbreak has led to overcrowding in hospitals, with patients being treated in corridors due to the lack of space. Urgent measures are being called for as health facilities struggle to cope with the influx of dengue patients.

The dengue virus, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, is prevalent in various regions worldwide, including Bangladesh.

Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen released footage confirming the survival of 10 crew members from the Liberian-flagged cargo ship Eternity C, which was sunk on July 7. Initially presumed dead, the crew—including nine Filipinos and one security officer—were shown in good health and speaking with family.

Greece-based operator Cosmoship expressed relief and called for their release. The Philippine government confirmed efforts to secure the return of its nationals. The ship had been attacked over two days by Houthi forces.
