The influx of desert dust and heat waves from Africa is causing health issues, particularly for children and the elderly, in Türkiye. Experts advise wearing masks and keeping windows closed to minimize exposure. The capital of Greece, Athens, experienced an orange haze due to this dust, while Istanbul also feels the negative impact. The General Directorate of Meteorology warns about the dust’s transport, originating from Libya and entering Türkiye via Tekirdağ, affecting the western region for an estimated three more days.
On the first day of Eid al-Adha, Istanbul residents headed to the beaches to escape the heat after performing animal sacrifices. Public beaches in Büyükçekmece and Küçükçekmece saw large crowds, with drone footage capturing the influx of holidaymakers.
The hot weather is expected to persist, with similar crowds anticipated at beaches and recreational areas throughout the holiday.
