Lost Klimt Painting Sells for $32 Million in Vienna Auction

A long-lost Gustav Klimt painting, “Portrait of Fräulein Lieser,” resurfaced in Vienna after nearly a century and fetched $32 million at the im Kinsky Auction House. The painting, believed to have been started by Klimt in 1917 and possibly gifted to the Lieser family between 1918 and 1925, was sold within its estimated range of $32 to $53 million. The buyer’s identity remains undisclosed. Im Kinsky revealed that the painting had been in private ownership since the 1960s, passing through three inheritances without public exhibition since 1926.
