Known as the elegant visitors of the region, flocks of flamingos arrived earlier than usual this March at the Lake Van basin in Van, Türkiye. The vast wetlands serve as a crucial stopover for thousands of migratory birds traveling from North Africa to Iran each spring. Wildlife experts interpret this early arrival as a sign of shifting ecological balances, noting the birds create a spectacular visual feast for locals. Highlighting the area’s importance for these animals, Prof. Dr. Lokman Aslan stated, “The Lake Van basin is very rich in wetlands, making it rich in aquatic habitats.” Thanks to abundant recent rainfall, officials expect even more aquatic species to join the vibrant local ecosystem this season
