Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced that Arab leaders have approved Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction plan at the Arab League Summit, estimated at $53 billion. He invited international support and confirmed that Egypt will host a reconstruction conference in April.
The plan, developed as an alternative to US proposals for relocating Gaza’s population, ensures Palestinians remain in their homeland while rebuilding efforts proceed. It includes a six-month early recovery phase costing $3 billion, a mid-term infrastructure phase until 2027 costing $20 billion, and a final phase until 2030 focused on additional housing, industry, and commerce at $30 billion.
Key provisions include forming a Gaza Administration committee of technocrats under the Palestinian government during a six-month transition, deploying international peacekeepers, and establishing a buffer zone with 20 temporary housing areas built by Egyptian and foreign firms. The plan aims to stabilize Gaza while preserving hopes for a two-state solution.
