A stampede broke out during the delivery of aid worth around $9 per individual in a school in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, due to Eid al-Fitr. At least 78 people were killed and more than 100 were injured as a result of the stampede. The Ministry of Interior reported that two businesspeople who were in charge of organizing the relief event had been detained and that the investigation continues.
According to eyewitnesses, the Houthis, who had ruled the capital for years, opened fire in the air to control the massive crowd; the bullets struck an electric line, triggering an explosion, and a rush erupted as a result of panic among people.
