Fire at Taiwan’s Maanshan Nuclear Plant

A fire broke out at Taiwan’s Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant in Pingtung but was swiftly contained, with authorities confirming no radiation leakage.

The fire, which started in the cooling units outside the plant, was extinguished within 10 minutes. Thick black smoke was visible from a kilometer away, raising public concern.

Operator Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) suggested the fire may have been caused by sparks from pipeline cutting work. An investigation is underway, and officials have assured that operations remain safe.
