“Flamingo Revolution” Challenges Albanian Resort Project

The “Flamingo Revolution” protests against a €1.4 billion luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner have entered their ninth day with growing momentum across Albania. Demonstrators are demanding an end to the planned development in the protected Zvernec region and Sazan Island, warning it threatens a sensitive ecosystem home to flamingos, seals, and sea turtles. What began as an environmental movement has escalated into widespread anti-government demonstrations, with thousands calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation and an end to corruption. Despite the fierce opposition, Rama insists the project will proceed to boost tourism and claims he will not be guided by street protests. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has accused Iran of orchestrating a disinformation campaign to fuel the unrest, an allegation that Tehran strongly rejected as ridiculous.
