Flooding in South India: Cyclone Michaung Leaves Trail of Destruction

Cyclone Michaung’s heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in southern India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states. In Tamil Nadu, eight casualties were reported due to flooding, with flight operations resuming in Chennai after a temporary halt caused by a flooded runway. In Andhra Pradesh, a 4-year-old died, and 8,000 people were evacuated due to collapsed walls in Tirupati. Strong winds caused power outages, tree falls, and extensive cancellations of trains and flights.

he Indian meteorological service predicts the cyclone’s landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast at speeds of 110 kilometers per hour within hours.
