Flooding Ravages East Africa: 71 Dead, Thousands Homeless

Devastating floods have struck East Africa amid heavy rains, claiming 58 lives in Tanzania and 13 in Kenya. In Tanzania, the deluge has affected 10 regions, with over a thousand people displaced and homes damaged. The International Federation of Red Cross Societies reports over 10,000 families displaced and 8,000 houses damaged in Tanzania alone.

Meanwhile, in Kenya, 15,000 people are homeless due to the floods, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Nairobi saw 11 deaths since March, with additional casualties in other regions. The rainy season has led to rising river levels, infrastructure damage, and widespread impacts across various regions in Kenya. The Kenya Red Cross reports over 17,000 houses affected in 16 regions.

Both countries brace for further challenges as heavy rains persist, with the peak expected by the end of the month.
