Forest Fire in northern Morocco

The North African country of Morocco is undergoing a heat wave, which resulted in forest fires. The forest fires that erupted two days ago in the northern provinces of Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan, and Taza are still out of control. While 500 families were evacuated from their homes in Larache and Taza as a precaution, some roads were closed to traffic. At least a thousand hectares of forest were burned to ash in Larache and Ouezzane. So far, no casualties have been reported. Firefighters and soldiers are working actively to extinguish the flames.

According to Fouad Assali, Director of National Forestry and Climate Risks Management, strong winds and difficult terrain conditions slowed firefighting efforts, and the fires also caused significant damage in hard-to-reach areas.
