Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was brought to the courthouse under heavy security yesterday after his arrest was described as “illegal” by the Islamabad High Court and his immediate release was ordered. The Islamabad High Court ordered Khan to be released on 2-week bail.
After Khan’s arrest, supporters took to the streets across the country. At least 11 people were killed, at least 290 people were injured and at least 2,500 people were detained.
Russia has handed over the bodies of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers in exchange for 19 Russian soldiers as part of an agreement reached during peace talks in Istanbul.
Russian Vice President Vladimir Medinsky stated, “As a continuation of the Istanbul agreements, we returned 1,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers today and received the bodies of 19 of our own. May they all rest in peace in their homeland.”
The Kremlin confirmed that the exchange follows the second round of peace talks held in June in Istanbul. According to Russian state agency TASS, the transfer marks the beginning of a broader process to return 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies.
