French go to the poll for the general election

In France, approximately 48.5 million voters go to the polls to vote for the second round of the general elections. The alliance that wins at least 289 out of 577 seats in the French National Assembly will win the election by gaining an absolute majority. The voting process, which starts at 08:00 am local time, will end at 06:00 pm. In some big cities, the polls will close at 08:00 pm.

On the other hand, the absolute majority could not be achieved and the election was in the second round due to Ensemble alliance led by French President Emmanuel Macron received 25.75 percent of the votes in the first round held on 12 June, while the “New Ecologic and Social People’s Union” (NUPES) alliance established by the French left received 25.66 percent of the votes. Also, in the general election race, in which French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and 14 ministers in the cabinet are candidates, the prime minister and ministers who cannot be elected as MPs will resign from the cabinet.
