Gaza, West Bank Recovery to Cost $53.2 Billion

A joint report by the United Nations, European Union, and World Bank estimates that $53.2 billion is needed over the next decade for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The report states that Israel’s attacks on Gaza caused $49 billion in destruction between October 2023 and October 2024.

More than half of the reconstruction cost, $29.9 billion, is required for physical infrastructure repairs, while $15.2 billion is needed to rebuild housing, which suffered the most damage. The report highlights that 292,000 homes were destroyed or damaged, accounting for 53 percent of the total destruction.

An additional $19.1 billion is needed to address social and economic losses in health, education, trade, and industry. With 95 percent of hospitals in Gaza now dysfunctional and the local economy shrinking by 83 percent, the report underscores the urgent need for international support.
