Far-right leader Geert Wilders announced that his Party for Freedom (PVV) is leaving the Dutch ruling coalition after failing to gain support for his anti-refugee plan.
Wilders said the coalition partners rejected his proposal to close refugee centers and repatriate Syrians. “Our asylum plans have not been signed. The PVV is leaving the coalition,” he posted.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof is expected to resign. If the government collapses, new elections may be held within months.
