Georgian Village Cares for Turkish Cow, Seeks Owner

The Georgian village of Kırnati is in search of the owner of a cow, believed to have crossed the border from Muratlı village in Türkiye’s Borcka district of Artvin. Kirnati residents, maintaining shifts for a month to care for the cow, are attempting to locate the owner by informing relatives in Türkiye.

Despite shared culture and kinship ties, the two villages were separated by border agreements in 1921, with Kirnati on the Georgian (Soviet Russia) side and Muratlı on the Turkish side. The close proximity and the Çoruh River sometimes result in animals crossing the border. In this case, the cow from Türkiye wandered into Kirnati, prompting residents to shelter and care for it while actively seeking the owner for the past month.
