A 33-acre olive grove in Hatay’s Altınözü district was split in half by the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, leaving a massive crack that stretches nearly 300 meters. Around 200 trees were lost in the rupture, reigniting fear among residents even two years after the disaster.
Locals described the destruction as unprecedented. “If you dropped 100 barrel bombs here, it wouldn’t look like this,” said Bekir Hacıömeroğlu, emphasizing the quake’s severity. Another resident, Halit Kandemir, stated, “Seeing this crack makes us relive the fear of February 6.”
