Greece’s Corinth Canal to remain closed until 2023 summer

The Corinth Canal in Greece, which connects the Aegean Sea to the Adriatic Sea, will remain closed until the summer of 2023 due to landslides, authorities said. The first phase of the overhaul has completed, but the risk of new landslides remains, the Corinth Canal SA stated.

Sea vehicles passing through the Corinth Canal reach the Ionian Sea without traveling around the Peloponnese, and save 286.4 kilometers thanks to the canal. Since its reopening on July 4, 2022, 6,001 ships from 70 different countries have passed through the canal.
