Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released two Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. The hostages, Nurit Yitzhak and Yocheved Lifshitz, were released for humanitarian and medical reasons, after Israel initially declined their release request. This comes in the midst of ongoing conflicts between Israel and Palestine, and Hamas had previously released other hostages, including an Israeli mother and her children, and a U.S. citizen mother and daughter.

Russian Vice President Vladimir Medinsky stated, “As a continuation of the Istanbul agreements, we returned 1,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers today and received the bodies of 19 of our own. May they all rest in peace in their homeland.”
The Kremlin confirmed that the exchange follows the second round of peace talks held in June in Istanbul. According to Russian state agency TASS, the transfer marks the beginning of a broader process to return 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies.
