Thousands of locals and tourists gathered in Edirne due to the Romani traditioniol festival Kakava and the Muslim seasonal holiday Hıdırellez. The celebrations, which started yesterday with the lighting of the Kakava fire, continued throughout the night. Some headed to the Tunca River before dawn and threw the papers on which they wrote their wishes into the waters.
Hıdırellez marks the day that the prophets Hızır (Al-Khdir) and İlyas (Elijah) met on Earth.
