Historic Bursa Mosque in Türkiye Faces Neglect

The 658-year-old Murad I Hüdavendigar Mosque in Bursa has suffered significant damage due to recent strong southwest winds, causing tiles to fly off the roof. Built between 1363 and 1366 by Ottoman Sultan Murad I, the mosque, a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site, has been neglected over time, with no renovations initiated despite the damage. The mosque also faces the threat of dampness.

The surrounding dilapidated buildings further undermine tourism, detracting from the mosque’s historical significance. The mosque, named after the only Ottoman sultan martyred in battle, remains in a state of disrepair, reflecting a lack of preservation efforts for this ancestral heirloom.
