The Selimiye Mosque in Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, reopened for worship after major restoration work that began in 2019. The reopening ceremony, attended via live broadcast by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, coincided with the mass inauguration of 101 restored foundation works across Türkiye and abroad. Originally built in 1192 and later converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest, the Selimiye Mosque is the largest surviving historical structure in Lefkoşa.
