Israel and Hamas reached an agreement to resolve a hostage crisis, mediated by Qatar and Egypt. Hamas agreed to release Israeli hostage Arbel Yehud, along with two others, prompting Israel to allow displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza.
Hamas confirmed the release of Yehud, soldier Agam Berger, and another hostage as part of the first phase of the agreement. Approximately 650,000 displaced Palestinians began returning to their northern homes after 15 months of displacement.
The deal also stipulates that Israel will withdraw from part of the Netzarim Corridor, allowing movement through the coastal road. The Israeli Prime Ministry announced it would not permit crossings to the north until the hostages were released.
