Hungarian PM Orban Pledges Support for Ukraine During Visit to Kiev

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, known for his frequent criticism of EU aid to Ukraine, visited Kiev following Hungary’s assumption of the EU Presidency from Belgium. In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Orban expressed Hungary’s readiness to assist in the modernization of Ukraine’s economy. He urged Zelenskiy to consider a ceasefire to facilitate peace talks and emphasized Hungary’s desire for improved bilateral relations and a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Ukraine.

Zelenskiy welcomed Orban’s visit, highlighting it as a symbol of shared European priorities. He reiterated Ukraine’s need for a “just peace” and discussed various bilateral issues, including trade, infrastructure, and energy cooperation. Zelenskiy also mentioned plans to open a Ukrainian school in Hungary, a project Orban promised to support.
