The Hungarian Workers’ Party called for peace between Russia and Ukraine, accusing the US of stirring up the war.
“Today we are against war, we want peace. But let’s not be naive! The Americans are the ones who don’t want peace today, and they don’t want it because war makes them rich,” said the party president Gyula Thurmer, under a banner that reads: “NATO pushes Hungary into war, the EU into misery, we want an independent Hungary!”
“We cannot pay the consequences of the war: the inflation and the increasing prices. The U.S. and Russia should settle an agreement. There will be no peace without it. Nuclear war cannot be an alternative. Everyone should be punished who even plays with the thought of nuclear war. We already feel the consequences of war. Let’s go into any shops. Inflation is already over 20 percent, and we are facing not only increasing prices but a real danger of disappearing products. In many parts of Hungary, there is a lack of access to sugar and oil. And queueing for products already started. We are not pushing Russia’s agenda, we are only pushing for peace. We need to settle with Russia. We have to achieve peace and cooperation with Russia. We are against the U.S. The U.S. is the one who doesn’t want peace, who consistently does everything to continue this war. They want to rule over us. They want to demolish the European Union and make us a colony.” said Thurmer in his speech.
Thurmer also stated that he does not want to take sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s administration is strongly opposed to the sanctions that western countries imposed on Russia.
