Hurricane Agatha, a category 2 storm that formed in the Pacific, made landfall in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, leaving rains in the south and southeast of Mexico, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).  Waves of up to 6 to 8 meters are expected to form on the coast of Oaxaca state as a result of the hurricane, while heavy rains are expected to raise stream levels. Floods and landslides are possible, according to experts. Due to the approaching hurricane, hundreds of shelters were built in the state of Oaxaca, and education was suspended for two days in primary and secondary schools, as well as some universities. The ports of Salina Cruz, Puerto Angel, Puerto Escondido, and Huatulco in Oaxaca were also closed as a precautionary measure, according to authorities.

Monsoon Rains Kill 17 in Pakistan

Monsoon rains have claimed 17 lives in Pakistan, with flash floods hitting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. In Swat, nine people drowned while trying to rescue children who fell into a river during a family picnic. Search operations are ongoing for four missing individuals. Eight more deaths were reported in Punjab due to roof collapses, lightning, and floods. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the tragedy.
