Hurricane Nicole, a category 1 storm, made landfall in Florida, USA, at 3:00 a.m. local time, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm hit the south of Vero Beach at 75 miles per hour, inundating some areas hit by Hurricane Ian. According to the National Hurricane Center, the east and west coasts of Florida, as well as the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, are expected to experience tropical storm conditions today, resulting in large and damaging waves along the Atlantic coast.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office reported that the eruption began at 09:45 local time, forming a 700-meter-long crack in the ground.
Authorities had closed off the area before the eruption. The volcano, which last erupted in December 2023, has been intermittently active since 2021.
