Iraq reacts to the Quran burning act in Sweden

The Quran burning action carried out by an Iraqi national asylum seeker in the Swedish Capital Stockholm on the first day of Eid-al-Adha caused eyebrows to raise in Muslim countries. The protest, which was held in front of a mosque, was not intervened by Swedish police.

Iraqi Government Spokesperson Basim al-Awadi said that the action in question reflects a “hateful, aggressive spirit” that has nothing to do with freedom of expression. He also said that such behavior that disrespects the beliefs and differences of Muslims could have consequences that no one wants, and urged the relevant authorities to stop these actions.
