Israel announced that humanitarian aid will not be allowed into the Gaza Strip, citing the end of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement and that Hamas, which it wants to maintain, refused to accept the US proposal to extend the ceasefire for the month of Ramadan and release all prisoners.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office threatened that there would be “other consequences” if Hamas continued to reject the offer and said, “Israel will not allow a ceasefire until our prisoners are released.”
According to the proposal by US Middle East Representative Steve Witkoff, the ceasefire in Gaza would be temporarily extended for the next six weeks to cover the periods of Eid al-Fitr and the Jewish Passover, and half of the living and dead prisoners held by Hamas would be released on the first day, and the remaining prisoners would be released “if a permanent ceasefire agreement is reached.”
